Skills4Work Programme at UCL

What is it?

The UCL Skills4Work programme exists to help you understand the skills that recruiters are looking for, and how to "sell" the skills you develop through your academic course, work experience and extra-curricular activities. Each session will be run by graduate recruiters and will focus on a particular skill rather than information about the companies running the session so you should only register based on your need to develop this skill rather than being interested in a particular company. (Presentations, Fairs or Forums are more useful for this)

The sessions that run during the Autumn term focus on writing applications, preparing for interviews and assessment centres or skills relating to roles in the legal sector. Session formats vary- see information below...

Please note: For 1-1 advice on skill development, you should attend an Applications Advice or a Short Guidance session.

Do I need to book to attend?

YES! You MUST register in advance and pay a returnable £10 cash deposit if you wish to attend any workshop or panel talk. This enables us to monitor attendance levels and ensure that they are more effective for those attending.

Places are allocated to those making the payment on a first come, first served basis and more students register interest online than there are places available so you will remain on a reserve list after registering until we receive your deposit. We therefore recommend early payment to avoid disappointment!

Register using your "My Careers Service" account. If you're using this for the first time, please read the My Careers Service Instructions carefully before trying to log in.

You can register TWO weeks before a workshop and bookings will close when it is fully booked or, at the latest, 1 working day before the event.

Can I attend if I haven't booked?

Generally NO! Workshops are popular and usually fully booked. If places are available on the day, they will be offered to those on the reserve list as above on a first come first served basis and then to those who haven't booked at all but we cannot guarantee entry.

To ensure you know when a workshop you're interested in is available for booking, we strongly recommend that you register with UCLAlert!
