Study Abroad Case Study

Student Profile

Yelena A Wainman - 4th year MSci Natural Sciences student

"My year abroad enabled me to experience a novel teaching system in a different cultural environment whilst making new friends. I benefited a lot from being an exchange student because I became more independent, more flexible and more able to adapt to new situations. Furthermore, beyond the great personal experience, I think that my exchange year was a very positive input on my CV, especially during my graduate PhD applications. I got accepted on a Cancer Research UK funded PhD programme (at Cambridge) and I believe that studying abroad showed that I could learn/research in a new environment and thus have a capacity to adapt which is important in research in general."
