Volunteering Services Unit

The Volunteering Service at Students’ Union UCL

The Volunteering Service exists to connect UCL with London’s voluntary and community sector, primarily by engaging students in rewarding volunteering opportunities. We’re a part of Students Union UCL and funded directly by UCL.

Last year, over 2100 UCL students got involved with our projects.

Volunteering can give you an enormous boost when it comes to finding paid work. Our own research, and that of other people, shows that through volunteering students can improve their employability, develop new skills and build networks.

Volunteering can give an insight into a career in the not-for-profit sector, but is also valued as experience by a wide range of graduate recruiters. We run training in Working with Children, Classroom Management and Project Leadership. In conjunction with UCL Careers, we also offer 'Volunteering and Your CV' sessions, enabling students to better articulate their experiences.

We aim to make getting involved as easy as possible, with a directory of opportunities updated on a daily basis, seven volunteer fairs each year and plenty of one-off volunteering events where you can just sign up and turn up. We can also help you set up and run your own community project.
