Civil Service Fast Stream

The Fast Stream is looking for exceptional graduates with a drive to develop a wide range of skills in a fast paced and highly varied set of placements. With a wide range of streams from the broad Generalist scheme, to the more specialized   Human Resources, Finance and Government Statistical Services streams, all kinds of different graduates can succeed in the Fast Stream. Degree requirements vary between streams, but all of them require candidates who are driven, adaptable, and ready to get involved in making the country run!

Name: Matilda Duncker

Current role: Digital Infrastructure Strategy and Consumer Policy Officer (first year Central Departments Generalist)

Studied at UCL: Masters in Comparative Art and Archaeology 2009-2010, PhD in Archaeology 2011-2015.

I joined the Civil Service Fast Stream days after submitting my thesis, and the year since has been fantastic. I knew I wanted a job in which I could continue to learn, develop new skills and explore new subjects, and the Fast Stream has given me exactly that.

I've had two amazing roles so far, first working in the Department of Health on issues that really make a difference to people across the country, and then in the Department of Culture, Media and Sport working on making sure the UK has the internet it needs. I'm off to a new role soon and can't wait to see what it has to offer.

The best things about the Fast Stream are the variety it has to offer and the opportunities it gives to work on things that matter to everyone. The different schemes mean that there are options suited to pretty much anyone and the range of roles within each scheme means that you'll never get bored. UCL taught me to be curious and never stop learning, both of which the Fast Stream indulges and rewards.
