UCL Alumni Profile: Lisa Quelch

Current role: Associate – Energy and Infrastructure Finance

Studied at UCL: Law LLB

"While it may seem unsurprising that, after studying law at UCL, I decided to become a solicitor, it was not my law degree alone which secured my training contract at Herbert Smith Freehills. The firm looks for both academic ability and a strong set of soft skills in the people they recruit. When I was at UCL, I found it brimming with opportunities to get involved in activities outside of my academic studies and I made the most of this throughout the three years I was there. For example, I was the Senior Moots Officer on the UCL Law Society Committee and the President of the Citizenship and Crime Scheme. I was also involved in mooting competitions, both within UCL and externally. Whilst there were moments when it was difficult to juggle everything alongside my studies, everything I did helped me to develop some of the skills I use as an Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills, namely project management, interpersonal and problem solving skills."
